En agosto de 2019 un incendio de enormes proporciones asoló la isla de Gran Canaria. Yo había llegado a las islas pocos meses antes después de diez años de ausencia; a la triste situación de haber perdido a dos seres queridos, amables, entrañables, se sumaba ahora un desastre natural que dejó detrás desolación y lágrimas.
The West was direct. I liked that. The East… well, “eastern” was a new a curious way of looking at myself. I liked that too. The East was, is, and possibly will ever be, simply implicit. Yes, the East is implicitness and unspoken-ness, and I knew something had to come out of this whole new experience. The years 2007-2010 brought exhibitions at the Estonian Contemporary Art Museum (EKKM), Tallinn Kunstihoone, Art Museum of Estonia (KUMU), Tartu Kunstimajas, Estonian History Museum, and open-air gallery activities such as the city of Paldiski or Lasnamäe. Grey skies in winter and beautiful, deep blue skies in summer. Contrast is art’s little secret, I think. Or at least one of them.

Even after I landed in the west, that kind of thinking logic has not be changed. During some time, I feel like that I could see those two elements are everywhere even in the west.
A series works started from that time on:
The idea of following work is from two Chinese characters 阴 & 阳( image 1). I reshaped and combined some parts of the both characters after the discovery of the most important element that they both shared( image 2) . I created two new figures which represent male and female. Two figures played a dramatic roles on the paper. Sometimes they are parted and sometimes they are together. This series lithograph works were printed on the Chinese traditional paper. I wondered how many “Romeo and Juliet” lived in China.
Continue reading “3D”Paldiski Flower is an artwork based on a cultural visit to Paldiski (Estonia) organized by Kuno Networks in association with EKA on the 14th of April 2009. Together with a group of colleagues from art academy, we visited the city and had the wonderful opportunity to talk to the people. It was great, the people in Paldiski were so open and willing to share their views about their history and the quick changes taking place at the time. A highlight of our stay was a quick jump to Pakri Island.
